The article is devoted to aspects of security and public order. The aim of the work is to system atize knowledge in the field of ensuring the safety of citizens in the light of generally applicable aws. It is alsointended to recall one of the most important duties of „Defending the Homeland by every Polish citizen” – art. 85 ust. 1 of the Constitution of the Republic of Poland. A detailed analysis of the subject of my work, based on the applicable literature and normative acts allowed for the preparation of the work in the following areas: security in the modern world, characteristics of contemporary threats, competence of government and self-government administration in the sphere of security and task scarried out by state protection links security shaping.
